Eating Socially

September 13, 2012

I am not sure why you enjoy going out to eat but whether it is to indulge in foods you could only dream about being cooked in your own kitchen or to enjoy a new experience, it is always better with great company. A huge element of my happiness at a restaurant is the person or people I am with. If you eat out and see several things on the menu that you would love to try but have to remind yourself that your eyes are bigger than your belly and struggle to choose what to order then you will appreciate this week’s post. Or if you are like me and believe that you shouldn’t ever be deprived of yumminess and therefore allow yourself to eat everything in moderation then you too will like this post.

A friend of mine recommended that we meet at Stanton Social in NYC’s Lower East Side and we enjoyed some drinks and a few things on their menu. Since then I have been back there twice, which for me in New York is a lot considering there are always new places to try. Knowing that I am going to be able to enjoy delectable bites in a comfortable setting is enough to keep me coming back. Places like this are perfect for making eating out an even more sociable experience.

However there are some things to think about when “Eating Socially”. First, you cannot carry just any and anyone; this is strictly from a hygiene perspective as you and your guests are sharing food, which is far to intimate to do with all acquaintances if you ask me. Secondly, these places can catch you by making you spend a lot more than you were expecting to, so pace yourselves and order as you go along because you will find that you get full before you know it. Lastly, for simpler dishes, make mental notes of the ingredients and plating so that you can make similar things at home for your next gathering and be a star host.

If there are places that you like to go to share small plates let me know about them, wherever in the world you are!
